fmp

Another example of the a text page along with my clock image. These two images work particularly well together. This is because the amount of negative space works really well in contrast with the scibblyness of the writing also the colours match up great.

Okay, here's the latest! Iv been working on my text pages, as in the text that goes next to my images in the finished product. Iv decided to hand write my selected quotes. At he moment there seems to be a bit of a dilemma. should the text be readable or not. that is the question?

fmp - pills

I have produced two ideas for this section of the book about anti depressants. I'm trying to portray in this image the large amount of people taking the pills but mainly as they are so addictive..its almost as thought the pills are taking control of us.

I changed the colours of the head and body of the figures, this way they represent pills more instead of just looking like people being eaten by a giant pill bottle.

I keep playing around with the colours in this one..

Lately Iv been finding appropriate quotes that link with my images to go next to each other for when I'm putting together the final thing. It was a quick process but it made me see I had to make changes to the 'housework' section picture [the last one I posted] I couldn't find a suitable quote to match up with the work. I realised this could be resolved by changing the aim of the picture, the chapter talks quite a bit about machines and how they don't do all the work..we are the ones who have to place the dishes in..buy all the special tablets, also most of the time they don't even wash the pots properly!

fmp - cups

Iv been working on a piece about housework, the chapter talks through afew alternatives we could use to washing up and tells that when we clean we should find pleasure in it. What I took from the chapter is we shouldn't be ruled by housework, we should do it when we want not when it needs doing.

I tried to think of a way to show someones mess, without making an image about pointless clutter. I came up with the idea kitchen utensils and washing the pots. I decided to have a sink in the image that way we can see the pots will be washed...just let them pile up and don't worry about them...they will get done but we are in charge of when.

fmp - shopping desire

This chapter of the book also proven to be quite difficult to come up with a stable idea. although I found theres a lot more imagery I could have worked with than there is with bills. As I work in a supermarket I noticed there was afew things I could use. also adding the found imagery into my illustration seemed to work out really well too.

Towards the end I noticed theres was something about the bar code that I made with the bending bars I wasn't happy with, its still a little busy on the top half of the image though but this will be solved shortly.

fmp - bills

Here's the final piece for the 'bills' piece Iv been working on. the origami was really stressful at first but then it became fun and I started to enjoy the process.

fmp - bills

Argh, I'd safely say this chapter on bills has been hardest to illustrate, here's some of my ideas that didn't quite work as well as Id hoped. This part of the book tells us to not be tied down by bills, we shouldnt have to to pay them strait away, so afew alternatives are to just ignore them [although there will be consequences], the chapter also tells we should take control by cancelling direct debit and write checks. In the end I chose a theme of making them fun [new pictures coming soon!]

Heres the final piece for 'cast off your watch'

fmp

Okay so one of the chapters in the 'how to be free' book is about banishing anxiety and being carefree, this part of the book talks about how reading the newspapers and simple every day things that we are surrounded by makes us anxious and how we should get rid of them. It also explains how we can be free without television in that we get so sucked in by all the advertisements.

At first I played around with CCTV as the chapter touches on ID and how each of us are being monitored so closely. this idea didn't work very well for me I decided to go with theme of anti - media and advertising. I think this picture is successful, it gives the feel we are being sucked in.

FMP

(see research if you'd like to know a little more about what my final major project is based on)

This is some imagery Iv produced for 'cast off your watch'
I had a little trouble getting the message across, which is basically preaching not wearing watches as we as constantly dictated by time.

cocktail

Here's my work for the calender wev been working on for the Beaufort wind scale brief. We got to work with Andy martin which was great and all the images seemed to work in sync with each other despite all our different working styles.
Anyway I got the month of July so I decided to theme it on holidays, the idea is that umbrella is being brown inside out by the wind. As the wind was 6 on the scale which means umbrellas are hard to handle.

what should we eat?

Here's my image for one of the half pages of the Eureka brief.
I chose to produce the image on the article 'what should we eat?'
I started to think about things we shouldn't eat [things that are not even food]
I went on to cut out shapes, then came up with the concept of the bird.
Once shrunk down I was really impressed with the cut out shapes and how well they worked in the composition.

Prints

Here's some lino - prints I produced during the elective 'drawing and print' I went on to do other methods of printing of which are also displayed on my blog.

Anyways even tho lino - printing can be tedious, I enjoy doing it. These prints are okay...they are not spectacular but theres something quite fun about them.

Barcelona

Heres some of the work I produced for the Barcelona project.

I took inspiration from the part in the short story were it talks about rebeling.

and how the people of Barcelona would spray paint things on walls and cars.

I produced two other peices for this brief, unfortunatly my scanner isnt the greatest and is making the colour in them look all wishy washy.

danna tartt

This is my version of Donna Tartts book 'The Secret History.'
I am happy with the outcome but if I had to re do it I would probably take a diffrent aproach, as aposed to link between the elements of crime and education. I think the white paper shirt looks interesting and I like the way the paper has scaned in and looks 3D, shadows have fallen the same places they would do if it were a real shirt that someone was wearing, without me having to play around on photoshop too much.

underfoot

Heres some of the work I produced for the underfoot brief. I did not submit the yellow worms with the green line but i thought it worked realy well. I enjoyed this brief and I am realy happy with the final outcome. The insect idea was broad so it was easy enough to come up with concepts.

Print

This is a print i did in my elective. drawing and print, i produced a 'dry point' by scratching into a sheet of aluminium with a scribe, then i printed out some body organs from a computer and stuck them down, then i mono printed half of a rib cage and skull. they are not the right size or correct proportion but...they are not meant to be.
